Richmond Hill - Weekend Road Closures Planned for September 11th & 12th and September 18th & 19th

The Department of Infrastructure is reminding motorists that the A5 Richmond Hill will be closed to through traffic from 8.00am on Saturday 11th September until midnight on Sunday 12th September 2010. From midnight on Sunday 12th September, the road will reopen but will be controlled by temporary traffic signals on the section of road between Rosehill Farm and Beaconsfield Cottage. These will operate until 8am on Saturday 18th September, when the road will be closed until midnight on Sunday 19th September 2010. The road will then reopen, under temporary traffic signals, for a period of approximately four weeks.

These traffic management restrictions are required to allow the Department’s workforce to tie the new road with the existing road at the southern end of the works, and to carry out bulk earthmoving operations.

A further weekend closure will be required and announcements will be made closer to the time.

During the weekend closures, the A5 will be closed from Spring Valley roundabout to Mount Murray Back Road, although access will be maintained for residents and emergency vehicles, and to businesses in the area, which will remain open as usual. The electronic matrix signs in Ramsey, Cronk Ny Mona and at the Sea Terminal will provide information to motorists regarding the closure. Warning signs have also been erected at various junctions to advise motorists to take an alternative route during the weekend closure.

Motorists heading towards the Airport and the south of the Island from central Douglas along the Inner Link Road – along South Quay and the A6 – will be advised to turn left at the White Hoe and use the A25 Old Castletown Road to Santon. Vehicles will then be diverted right onto the B24 Oatlands Road and back onto the A5 Castletown Road.

Motorists heading south from Quarterbridge will be diverted right at the Spring Valley Roundabout and directed to use the A6 Cooil Road leading to the A24 and the A26 which runs through the Braaid, St Mark’s and onwards to Ballasalla.

Motorists heading north from Ballasalla will be advised to use the A5 New Castletown Road as far as Santon. Vehicles will be diverted right onto the B24 Oatlands Road and then left onto the A25 Old Castletown Road.

Alternatively, at Ballasalla motorists can use the A26 St Mark’s Road and the A24 to rejoin New Castletown Road at Spring Valley roundabout. Advisory signs and diversion signs will be placed at various junctions on these routes to assist motorists in their journeys.

The Department wishes to take this opportunity to apologise for any inconvenience caused during these two periods of road closures. It also advises motorists to consider taking alternative routes during busy peak periods to avoid the inevitable traffic queues when the temporary signals are activated.
